Early the next morning, Tellius received news via a messenger that Cornelius had been murdered. A gang of city-dwellers had been going about the streets looking for the targets of the proscription and had found him outside a tavern. Why he had taken the risk of drinking in a tavern late at night after the proscription had gone out was anybody’s guess.
