A Patriotic Time:
It occurred to me this year that although I’ve been using July to highlight patriotism in this newsletter, it might be more fitting to highlight patriotism in June. After all, the period from Memorial Day through the 4th of July is filled with patriotic celebrations. We begin with Memorial Day, when we honor our fallen and remember those who have laid down their lives for this country. Some years, we hear laments that Americans spend that weekend holding backyard barbecues and going to the pool, rather than holding moments of silence and fasting.
